Boston Red Sox will have Kyle Kendrick on the hill Thursday vs Orioles
Kyle Kendrick was the hottest pitcher for the Sox during Spring Training this year. He cooled off once he got to Pawtucket however. He’ll get his shot in Boston with Steven Wright now on the disabled list. Kendrick last started a game in 2015. The Sox are up two games to one after winning tonight against the Orioles. After some crazy fireworks, Major League Baseball has stepped in to make sure that nothing more happens involving Manny Machado and the Sox.
KK posted a 4 – 0 record in 8 total games pitched including 7 starts. He also finished up the spring with a 2.18 ERA, 31 strike outs in 33 innings and only allowed 8 runs. Yes it was the spring and pitchers were working out their kinks but I got to give him some credit. With David Price on the shelf to start the season, some thought the Sox were going to give him the first shot in the rotation with his impressive showing. While it didn’t pan out that way in April, May is a new month and he’ll finally get his shot.
So far in Pawtucket, Kendrick is 1 – 3, has a 6.00 ERA and has 20 strike outs in 27 innings. He’s also giving up a team leading 17 earned runs and 7 home runs. He’s also posted a 1.07 WHIP with a complete game. While the numbers don’t scream start me, they need to give someone a shot. Henry Owens wasn’t going to get the nod given how he’s performed in Boston so far. With a little more seasoning he’ll be set. The Sox also have Brian Johnson who did well in his first MLB start earlier this year. The Sox have options.
Tomorrow night was supposed to feature Ubaldo Jimenez but with him Kevin Gausman getting ejected in the 2nd, they needed long bullpen relief. The Orioles will have someone else take his spot, potentially former Sox pitcher Wade Miley. We shall see tomorrow night as the 4th game starts at 7:10 PM.
