Boston Red Sox needed depth in rotation – Dombrowski adds Doug Fister
Fister just got released by the Angels before the series started against the Red Sox. Who does Fister make his debut against? The Angels. Perhaps, this will be just the thing that he needs before a lengthy term pitching in Beantown. After lighting it up in his first year as a member of the Nationals, the wheels fell off the following year after that.
Fister’s 2014 numbers were very good. Posting a 16 – 6 record with a 2.41 ERA with 98 strike outs in 164 innings. The next season however, it was a disaster. The quick tempo pitcher made only 15 starts and made 10 appearances from the bullpen posting a 5 – 7 record with a 4.19 ERA. Fister looked to do better in his new home playing for the Astros the following season.
Fister as a member of the Astros posted a 12 – 13 record with a 4.64 ERA with 115 K’s in 180 1/3rd innings. His 32 starts in 2016 matched his career high when he went 14 – 9 in 2013 when he was a Tiger before before being traded to the National League. His career record is 77 – 76 with 847 strike outs in 1,266 career innings. He’ll look to get his first win this season against his former 2017 club.
