The Boston Red Sox minor affiliate Paw Sox of Pawtucket have officially called up Rafael Devers to be their new 3rd baseman
The Panda era is over. Welcome in Rafael Devers. Devers, tore up AA this season slashing an insane .300/18/56 over 77 games. It was about time the Red Sox promoted their future 3rd baseman. He was no longer getting challenged in AA Portland. Why should Sox fans be this excited? Devers is only 20 years old.
The young rookie figures to be the biggest and young spark plug going forward into the future for the Red Sox. What happens with Deven Marrero and Tzu-Wei Lin when Devers does come up? Lin can play multiple positions in the infield and with Dustin Pedroia getting older, there’s a chance he becomes the new 2nd baseman of the future. He has played some in the outfield as well.
Still, we’re waiting for Devers to be called up. Can he make as much of a bang as Aaron Judge did in New York? It’s possible although it’s highly unlikely. Luck and size have made Judge something to marvel at. No other player has that kind of torque on a swing. When watching Devers play, the first thing that comes to mind is patience. Judge strikes out quite a bit. Devers has been fanned only three times over his last 32 at bats.
One thing is for sure, Pawtucket fans have got to be very excited knowing their about to see a future star in the making playing on their team. One player can make a load of difference and for fans, they’ve just got to wait for all the pieces to come into play.
Most are predicting that Devers figures to be in Boston at some point next season and looks to the every day man beginning in 2019. A Red Sox line up consisting of Devers, Xander Bogaerts, Jackie Bradley Jr., Andrew Benintendi, and Mookie Betts could be lethal. The 2019 Red Sox season of the future is looking like it could be one of the best offensive squads since the David Ortiz Era in Boston.
