Boston Red Sox starting rotation dealt blow with David Price headed to DL for the same impingement issue again
The David Price saga continues taking yet another odd turn. Price was scheduled to pitch tonight against the Royals in Boston but this morning, he was sent to the disabled list with the same shoulder injury again. How bad is it? We’re still not sure right now. One thing that hasn’t died yet is, the fracas that occurred on the team place with former Red Sox pitcher and current analyst, Dennis Eckersley.
What is now apparent, Price made a comment on the team place. According to Boston Globe’s Dan Shaughnessy:
When Eckersley approached, on his way to the back of the plane
(Sox broadcasters traditionally sit in the rear of the aircraft), a
grandstanding Price stood in front of Eckersley and shouted,
“Here he is the greatest pitcher who ever lived!
This game is easy for him!” When a stunned Eckersley tried
to speak, Price shot back with, “Get the [expletive] out of here!”
Players allegedly applauded making the situation even worse. Price earlier this year yelled at reporters following a poor start and stated that he would only talk to reporters following own starts. Just one thing after another with him and fans are starting to get sick of it. I know I’m certainly starting to get annoyed with him and his antics. The drama isn’t helping the team. It’s draining the team’s energy.
The Red Sox have spoiled their lead over the Yankees who began tonight just 1/2 a game ahead of their arch rivals. The Yankees seemed burned out and done only to have found second life. With Price out of commission, the biggest concern is being able to contend in the American League East. Eduardo Rodriguez is back but he’s not 100%. Since coming back, he’s posted an 0 – 2 record in three starts. Price out only hurts the team.
The Sox will be left with big shoes to fill in the rotation. Good news? The media circus following Price will be away for the time being which will give the team the time to refocus and get back on track. With the Sox currently losing against the Royals, it looks like the 1/2 game lead in 1st place above the Yankees has come to and end. John Farrell will need to shake things up because if he doesn’t, the first person out will be him.
